CLUB HISTORY

The Club was established in 1963, having been granted a lease over part of the land previously occupied by the Royal Hobart Golf Club, which had transferred its operation to a new site.  Our first clubhouse was that previously owned by the Golf Club. A new clubhouse replaced the original in 1974 and was extended in 1997.

We entered the Southern Tasmanian Bowls Association pennant competition in the 1964/65 season with sides in Divisions 4, 5 and 6 (2).  Four years later we had qualified by promotion to enter a side in Division 1 and we won the first of many Division 1 Pennants in 1974.

 Since 1996, members of the Clarence Sub-Branch of the RSL have been social members of the Club and have used it as their headquarters and for social activities.  The Club has provided some space for RSL administration and display of its memorabilia. The arrangement has proved of considerable benefit to both groups.

 The Club currently has three excellent grass greens, parking for ninety or more cars and a spacious modern clubhouse and is regularly chosen to host major intrastate, interstate and national events.
